![]() Sir Alex Ferguson makes no bones about his opinion that Manchester United have not won the Champions League often enough.
But the legendary manager may have to get used to the reality that he may not lift the famous old trophy for a third time.
When you consider the Red Devils sit only joint seventh for the number of European Cups won, their total of three being one short of Ajax and two behind Liverpool, Fergie makes a valid point.
For it’s not as though United have lacked the opportunity. Since they ended their 26-year league championship title drought in 1993, they have contested the Champions League on 19 occasions and won it only twice.
Of course, it could still become three in 20 this season, but they will have to overcome Real Madrid in the second leg of their la... Read more »

![]() Manchester United's Ryan Giggs is set to become the first individual to complete the mandatory qualification for Premier League and Champions League managers while still playing, sending a clear signal that he aspires to manage the club one day. Sir Alex has stood by his decision to strip Wayne Rooney of Manchester United’s penalty-taking duties, but insists he still has faith in the striker from 12 yards. Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United have heavily relied on Wayne Rooney. That helped United reclaim their title in 2011. The question always was: Can United win without Rooney? The answer is there now. Wayne Rooney is no longer indispensable to Manchester United's Premier League hopes. Prior to this season, Rooney was one of the Red Devils' most important players. That all changed upon the arrival of Robin van Persie. Many were skeptical of the Dutch striker moving to Old Trafford. Sure he's a world-class striker, but United already had plenty of options in the attack. The logic was that the club could be improved in other wa... Read more »

![]() Referee Howard Webb has been selected to officiate United’s clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford next Sunday. Despite Webb has refereed a World Cup final and a Champion’s League final and is rated as the world number one by both FIFA and UEFA. However, his controversial decisions in the clash between the two clubs back in January of 2011, lead to heavy criticism from Liverpool fans and even some of the players – including Ryan Babel’s suggestion that Webb is a Manchester United fan. United striker Wayne Rooney has been granted compassionate leave by the club following the death of his sister-in-law Rosie McLoughlin at the weekend |
![]() Sir Alex has admitted that he has learned to "relish" Manchester United's habit of leaving it late to achieve a result, as his team did again when drawing at West Ham United in the FA Cup on Saturday. Ferguson's side were trailing 2-1 in the third-round tie before Robin van Persie scored the equaliser in added time, and the manager said he feels pride in his players' courage to keep going until the final whistle. "That's exactly it," he told Inside United. "At the end of the day, the finish to these games sends everybody home absolutely over the moon. They'll be walking down the street towards their cars, or getting in their cars and driving home, telling each other: 'What a game, absolutely fantastic.'" Asked if he would... Read more »

![]() Not for a one second there was any disbelief. Andreas Weiman shocked the football world by scoring twice and putting Aston Villa 2-0 ahead. Yes, some may have thought this was the day when the 17 years wait was over. Last time United were beaten by Aston Villa at the Villa park, David Beckham scored his debut goal. United lost 3-1. Alan Hansen had his famous "You’ll never win with kids” moment. And we all know what those kids achieved after that! Not for one moment there was a disbelief in the United fans, not in the fans at the away stand, not in the fans watching at home. And I bet even the Villa fans knew it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park! Something was in the air. The aurora was different, yet so familiar. This was not an ordinary team. This was Manchester United. This was Sir Alex’s Manchester United! 2-0 down, Si... Read more »

![]() Yet another come back completed. Yet another show of resilliance and will power. This never die attitude has been part of every United side under Sir Alex Ferguson over the past 26 years. From two goals down in the first half, United took all 3 points thanks to a brace from Chicharito and Evans. Offensively, a spectacular performance. Some of the attacking play was a treat to watch. The link up at times was phenomenal. But, its the defensive side that worries me at the moment. In the 12 games we have played so far this season, we have gone behind in 8 out of them. Yes, we do grind out the results, but that wasnt the case when we played Everton and Tottenham. Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra were rested for the game to have them ready to play the big game at Stamford Bridge this weekend against Ch... Read more »
